You can also use a window feeder with suction cups. Some models have a dome that blocks large birds but allows chickadees, goldfinches, and cardinals to feed peacefully.

2 – How do I prevent animals from knocking down my feeders?

Attach them with a locking carabiner. This prevents raccoons and squirrels from unscrewing the feeder, while making refilling and cleaning easier.

3 – Too many seeds are falling to the ground. How can I avoid this mess?

It all depends on the mix. Cheap mixes often contain milo, which birds reject. Opt instead for black oil or shelled sunflower seeds, which are highly appreciated and produce no waste. Add a seed tray to reduce seeds on the ground and limit large groups of birds.

Opt for a squirrel-proof caged feeder. It allows chickadees, woodpeckers, and goldfinches to enter, but blocks starlings, grackles, and squirrels.
