Highly nutritious and enjoyed by a wide variety of birds, shelled peanuts are an excellent choice of food during cold weather. They should be placed in a specific feeder. You can also crush them and place them on a tray to make them easier  to access for birds with smaller beaks, such as chickadees and nuthatches.
