Feeder placement

• The feeder should be placed away from balcony railings, posts, and trees. This way, the squirrel will have to put its full weight on the perch, causing it to collapse. The recommended minimum distance is 14 inches, but a greater distance may be desirable. The activation of the anti-squirrel mechanism is weight-dependent, so if the squirrel can stretch out and place only part of its weight on the feeder, it might not activate the mechanism.
  
• Red squirrels and chipmunks are not heavy enough to collapse the perches. To maximize the chances of them not being able to access the seeds, place your feeder so that they have to jump to reach it.
  
• Place your feeder within 30 feet of trees and shrubs, if possible. Birds will feel more secure as they can quickly take cover when predators approach.
