Illustrated Checklist of the Mammals of the World

A two-volume set.

It has taken many years to produce this comprehensive series of the Handbook of the Mammals of the World. This last work updates the taxonomy of every currently recognized mammal species, providing a comprehensive checklist in a two-volume set.

This new illustrated checklist includes all recently published revisions in new succinct species accounts for each species. In addition to the updated scientific name for each species, each species includes common names in English, French, German, and Spanish, and the IUCN Red List conservation category. Taxonomic notes incorporate recent changes and updated distributions are also included. If subspecies are recognized, they are updated with their current distributions. Each species account is accompanied by a full-colour scientific illustration, adapted from previous volumes, accompanied by a revised distribution map.

If you own the complete HMW set, you will want to add this last set of volumes to provide up-to-date coverage of all currently recognized species, including recently described forms. The Illustrated Checklist of the Mammals of the World also works well as a comprehensive and standalone summary of the current taxonomy and distribution of all currently recognized mammal species.
