Pine and spruce chips

It is recommended to use wood shavings in the bottom of nesting boxes for chickadees, nuthatches, and downy woodpeckers. It is recommended to put one inch of wood shavings at the bottom of each nesting box. One bag of shavings will be enough for one nesting box.

For wood duck nesting boxes, 4 inches of wood shavings or 5 bags are recommended to be placed at the bottom of the nesting box.

For spotted owl nesting boxes, 2 to 3 inches of wood shavings or 3 bags are recommended to be placed at the bottom of the nesting box.
